PGA Tour's FedEx Cup schedule revealed
The PGA Tour's inaugural FedEx Cup schedule, which will end with a four-event Championship Series, has been published.
The points-based contest will span 37 weeks from the Mercedes
Championship in Hawaii (4-7 Jan) to the Tour Championship in Atlanta
(13-16 Sept).
PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem explained: "The FedEx Cup schedule
(will) maximise the strength of our events, sponsors and venues."
It follows on from a complete shake-up of the PGA Tour, which started last November.
The PGA Tour has been pressurised by advertisers to bolster poor late-season television ratings.
Tim Finchem has decided to focus on a tighter schedule and to create
some badly needed credibility for the season-ending Tour Championship,
which will be brought forward by six weeks.
The FedEx Cup will lead into a late American summer play-off of three
blockbuster events ending with the Tour Championship in September.
The Championship Series starts with the Barclays Classic in New York
(23-26 August) followed by the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston (31
Aug-3 Sept) and the Championship Series/Chicago from (6-9 September).
