Michelle Wie targets the men's US Open
Teenage golfing phenomenon Michelle Wie is making her next move towards participating at the men's US Open when she tees off in a final qualifier on Monday.
Michelle Wie is one of 153 players hoping to get one of the 18 qualifying spots for the event at the Canoe Brook Country Club in New Jersey.
If Michelle Wie were successful, she would become the first woman golfer to take part in one of the four major championships.
But former USPGA champion Mark Brooks, also in the field, said: "I'd be very surprised if she got through."
Michelle Wie has never made the cut on the PGA Tour and the closest she got was in 2004 at the Sony Open, when she failed by one shot after shooting 68 in the second round.
Michelle Wie will be the last to tee off in the second 18 holes on the North Course and she will be paired with David Gossett, a former PGA Tour winner, and Rick Hartmann, a club pro from Long Island.
Michelle Wie arrived at Canoe Brook on Thursday and has practised each day since with her swing coach, David Leadbetter.
