Michelle Wie faces top names on PGA Tour
Teenage golfing phenomena Michelle Wie will again face the top names on
the PGA Tour in the Sony Open in Hawaii in the New Year.
The 16-year-old, who has just turned professional, has missed the cut in her previous two appearances at the event.
"We're in the entertainment business, it's more than just a golf event," said PGA Tour vice president Ric Clarson.
"So when a player like Michelle plays in the Sony Open, it creates national and international attention."
Michelle Wie missed the cut by one shot at the Sony Open in 2004 but this year was nine over par after the opening two rounds.
"I think it's a perfect fit with her roots here in Hawaii and that fact
that she has played here in the past," Ric Clarson added.
"It's almost like watching one of your children grow up."
Michelle Wie also played in the men's John Deere Classic in July but
missed the cut by just two strokes after dropping shots on two of her
last four second-round holes.
Michelle Wie is also set to take on the men at the Casio World Open on the Japanese Tour this November.
Michelle Wie has had a very impressive season as an amateur on the LPGA
Tour and had three runner-up finishes and a share of third at the
Women's British Open.
