Wie's following WoodsBarely 16 and yet Honolulu born 6 ft. tall Michelle Wie looks all set to follow the phenomenal success of Tiger Woods. With endorsement money pouring in from major backers like Nike and Sony, estimates for Wie's funding are as high as $10 million.
She makes her debut on October 13 (2 days before her birthday) as a professional player in the Samsung World Championship, a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event held at Palm Desert, California.
Although Wie cannot join the LPGA until she is 18, and is limited to 6 annual sponsor's exemptions into LPGA tour events, she can compete in the US Women's Open and the Women's British Open golf tournaments.
In endorsement money alone Michelle Wie is already the highest paid female golfer and the 3rd highest female athlete in any sport.
It looks like there will be no stopping her and asked in July at the Women's British Open if she wouldn't be better off competing against girls her own age rather than professionals Wie had this to say: "You can learn the art of winning out here too and that's what I'm trying to do."
In the eyes of today's golf world Michelle Wie is very much a winner already.
