Michelle Wie's high hopes for the Open

Michelle Wie was highly delighted to hear that women are to be allowed to qualify for the Open.

Golfing phenomenon Michelle Wie, who turned professional last week, was tied third in the Women's British Open and this would make her eligible for Open regional qualifying for Hoylake.

"I will definitely try and qualify if it fits into my schedule," Michelle Wie said.

"It would be a really good experience to play in the men's British Open. I know it is a tough route but it would be all worth it."

Michelle Wie has played in three PGA Tour events and never made the cut but she admits she would love to play alongside the men on a regular basis.

Women were previously not allowed to enter the Open, but under the new rules the top five finishers from each of the four women's majors will be able to take part in the 18-hole Open regional qualifying.
