Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa breaks tournament record
Mexican Lorena Ochoa broke the tournament record with a stunning 10-under-par 62 in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which was this season's first women's major event.
Beth Zimmerman had set the past record in 1962 but Lorena Ochoa bettered that and equalled the US LPGA major best set by Minea Blomqvist in 2004.
This stunning birdie blitz left Lorena Ochoa four strokes clear of teenage sensation Michelle Wie.
The defending champion and world number one Annika Sorenstam only managed a round of level par 72 and the record-breaking round clearly belonged to Lorena Ochoa, who described it as "amazing".
Lorena Ochoa, 24, said: "I kept hitting the ball close to the pin and then making putts. It was a really good day and now I just want to do the same in the next three rounds."
But Lorena Ochoa had blown a chance to win last year's US Women's Open when she took eight at the final hole, however, she certainly made up for it now.
