Irish golfer Peter Lawrie beats Ignacio Garrido
Irish golf star Peter Lawrie defeated Spaniard Ignacio Garrido at the second play-off hole and became winner of the Spanish Open in Seville.
34-year-old Lawrie looked all set to win after making four birdies but then Garrido came back fighting with a 30ft birdie putt to tie on 15-under.
The two golfers birdied the first extra hole, however, Garrido then saw his pitch to the same area end up going into the water.
Ignacio Garrido had hoped to do as well as his father, Antonio, who had claimed the Spanish title back in 1972 but although he did his best he was unable to beat Peter Lawrie.
Lawrie's triumph makes it three consecutive Irish wins on the European Tour along with Darren Clarke's Asian Open success and Damien McGrane's win at the China Open.
Peter Lawrie said proudly: "It's nice to keep it in the Irish contingent. It spurs you on - you play practice rounds with them and think 'why can't I do it'?"
