Irish golfer Paul McGinley hopes to be back soon
Irish golfer Paul McGinley is hoping to be getting into practice again just 10 days after withdrawing from the Irish Open after 13 holes to have a knee operation on Thursday.
Paul McGinley, 39, had a piece of floating bone taken out of his left knee and hopes to make a comeback for the US Open.
"There is a 50-50 chance I can play in the (1-4 June) Wales Open. But, more realistically, it looks like it will be the (15-18 June) US Open," Paul McGinley said.
A long time away from golf could jeopardise Paul McGinley's dream of a third Ryder Cup.
Paul McGinley is seventh in Europe's Ryder Cup table and with the top 10 by 3 September qualifies automatically, and the match against the USA takes place at the K Club, Ireland, from 22-24 of the same month.
"Had it (the bone) remained in the back of the knee my recovery time would have been something between six and 10 weeks but now I hope to be hitting balls in 10 days," Paul McGinley said.
Paul McGinley, who won the 2002 Ryder Cup, started having knee problems aged 19 when he broke his left knee-cap playing Gaelic football, and this injury persuaded him to take up golf.
