Irish golfer Padraig Harrington gets second chance
Irish golf star Padraig Harrington was relieved after he had reached the 18th a shot clear but then found water to double-bogey, that he had got a second chance to win the Open in a play-off against Sergio Garcia at Carnoustie.
Padraig Harrington, 35, explained: "I think if I'd lost it would have been very hard to take."
And Padraig Harrington added: "If Sergio had parred the last and I'd lost, I think I would have struggled to come back and be a competitive golfer. I would have struggled in the future."
But Padraig Harrington is now the first European golfer to win a major since Paul Lawrie was victorious in 1999, also on the same course, and he has become the first Irishman to win the Open for 60 years.
"My goal was always to win more than one major," a proud Padraig Harrington said .
