Irish golf star Darren Clarke is feeling confident
Irish golfer Darren Clarke is feeling confident he can carry on his current run of good performance and make a winning display at this week's Spanish Open.
Clarke, 39, had claimed his first title in three years at the Asian Open on Sunday and was really glad to be able show that his critics were wrong.
"It was nice to come through the other side. According to one press guy last year I was 'continuing my inexorable slide to oblivion'. It was gratuitous. So it was nice to prove people like that wrong," Darren Clarke said.
It was true that Clarke had slumped badly in his career after his wife Heather died of cancer in 2006 but he has since made a return to past glory with some of his best playing in Shanghai.
Darren Clarke is now 112th in the world golf rankings and based on his recent success he is feeling optimistic for the Ryder Cup later on this year.
