Golfer Graeme McDowell qualifies for the Open at Hoylake Golfer Graeme McDowell has qualified for the Open after a play-off at Sunningdale, which had to be carried over to Tuesday due to inclement weather.
On Monday 14 of the 18 still available places went quickly and seven players were left to battle it out for the remaining four spots in a play-off on Tuesday.
Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell qualified following a birdie on the third hole and so did South African Richard Sterne with the last two spots going to English golfers Simon Dyson and Robert Rock.
South African Darren Fichardt and Italian Alessandro Tadini were out after a double bogey and bogey respectively at the first hole.
The number of spots on offer increased after bad weather caused delays at the Booz Allen Classic and affected the numbers teeing off at the American qualifier at Maryland's Congressional Country Club.
British golfer stars Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Greg Owen and Brian Davis are among the entries for an event, which has now been put back 24 hours to Tuesday and cut from 36 to 18 holes.
If it isn't possible for the event to be played on Tuesday then it will be cancelled and the 12 spots on offer awarded to the leading players in the world rankings.
The Open will be held between 20 and 23 July at Hoylake.
