Golf star Tiger Woods to have knee surgery
World number one golf star Tiger Woods will be away from sport for four to six weeks because he is having surgery on his left knee.
Tiger Woods, who was in second place at the Masters on the weekend, will not be able to defend his Wachovia Championship title from 1-4 May because of the operation he needs.
Tiger Woods, 32, has been operated on on that knee twice before - he first had surgery on the knee in 1994 to remove a benign tumour, and then after that he was treated with arthroscopic surgery in December 2002.
Tiger Woods said: "I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery for after the Masters. The upside is that I have been through this process before and know how to handle it. I look forward to working through the rehabilitation process and getting back to action as quickly as I can."
Tiger Woods is now also likely to miss the Players Championship in May.
