Golf star Tiger Woods named PGA player of the year
Golf star Tiger Woods has been announced as PGA player of the year for the ninth time in 11 seasons.
World number one Tiger Woods had already won seven titles, including his 13th major at the US PGA Championship, but right now he is getting ready for the Presidents Cup, which begins on Thursday.
But although he has been named player of the year, Tiger Woods has a poor record in this forthcoming contest. Nevertheless American captain Jack Nicklaus claims that Tiger Woods is still a very popular choice as partner.
Jack Nicklaus is reported to have explained: "Tiger's record in fourball isn't good, but the 11 other players probably want to play with him."
Tiger Woods has lost six and won just two fourball matches in his previous Presidents Cup appearances and Jack Nicklaus added: "I think he won a match in Washington and we almost gave him a party.
"Tiger has asked to play with three different players and I'm going to try and honour that wish if I can, three different ways."
