Golf star Tiger Woods makes Medinah intentions clear
Golf star Tiger Woods made his intentions clear with a birdie on the 18th to climb to within one stroke of the lead in the second round of the USPGA at Medinah.
Tiger Woods, 30, had not been playing his best but nevertheless ground out a 68 to catch one rival player, Geoff Ogilvy, and keep the other, Phil Mickelson, at bay.
Geoff Ogilvy also shot 68 for seven under as Phil Mickelson got a 71 and four under.
"I didn't do anything special. I just hung around and didn't make any mistakes," said Tiger Woods.
"You've got to go out there and understand there's going to be a bunch of guys probably within four or five shots of the lead, and go out there and make some birdies here and there and try not to give anything back," Tiger Woods added.
South African Ernie Els carded a two-under 70 for three under overall and compatriot golfer Retief Goosen was one under, while American player world number three Jim Furyk ended two under.
