Golf star Jean Van de Velde to miss Open due to illness
French golf star Jean Van de Velde will have to miss this year's Scottish Open at Carnoustie due to continuing ill health.
Jean Van de Velde, 41, has pulled out of the Scottish Open next week, and, sadly, this will be his last chance to qualify for the major.
Jean Van de Velde has been suffering from a mystery illness and started complaining he was unwell after April's Portuguese Open.
Jean Van de Velde is suffering sickness and fatigue, and he also had to withdraw from last Monday's international final qualifier.
Jean Van de Velde underwent tests on Tuesday but even though the results were inconclusive he does not feel well enough to play the Loch Lomond event, which he needed to win to qualify for the Open.
Manager Jamie Cunningham explained: "The tests are still not clear and he will be going for more, but Jean doesn't feel he can compete next week. In fact he's not even sure he can play four rounds."
