Golf chief Peter Dawson downplays Carnoustie's future
Golfing chief Peter Dawson of the Royal & Ancient Club has downplayed suggestions that poor attendances due to very bad recent weather could go against Carnoustie's future chances of hosting the Open.
Peter Dawson said: "We'll be coming back to Carnoustie if they will accept us."
And Peter Dawson added: "Carnoustie is firmly on the Open rota and it is one of our strongest venues.
"Everything has worked very well here this week. We are pretty pleased with the crowds, given the weather."
Peter Dawson also maintained that drugs were not a problem in the sport of golf after recent allegations had suggested it was.
"But there is absolutely no evidence or anything for these remarks in the game and I think most of the top players in the game today have backed that view," Peter Dawson is reported to have explained.
