Geoff Ogilvy is in the world's top 10 golfers
Newly-crowned US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy has pushed his way into the world's top 10 golfers for the first time from the results of his maiden major victory.
Australian golf star Geoff Ogilvy, 29, was placed only 50th at the beginning of the year but has now gone up nine places to eighth.
Joint-US Open runner-up Colin Montgomerie improves to 13th place and England's David Howell is 10th.
However, Tiger Woods still holds the number one spot although he has seen his lead over Phil Mickelson cut to less than six points.
At the US Open, Tiger Woods missed the halfway cut in a major for the first time as a professional golfer.
Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia, another who had an early exit at Winged Foot, drops to ninth position in the rankings.
Geoff Ogilvy's victory has given Australia its first major golf title since Steve Elkington won the PGA Championship in 1995 and Ogilvy is only the second Australian to win the US Open, after David Graham in 1981.
