Former golfer and Masters regular Phil Harison dies
Masters regular Phil Harison, who for all of 60 years had acted as the starter on the first tee, has died aged 82, and he was one of only two people to be at every Masters since the prestigious event began in 1934.
Harison's voice became something that fans were used to hearing along with his own manner of announcing the players.
Phil Harison had made his recovery following a car accident to be the starter for one final time in 2007.
Masters chairman Billy Payne paid tribute saying: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Phil Harison. Phil was a cherished member who made significant contributions to the Masters."
And Payne added: "As the starter on the first tee, he was the face of the Masters to many patrons. He did a wonderful job in that role."
Phil Harison, who along with his father and brother had become a member of the Masters when he was 21, was actually brought up in a house near the first green at Augusta National, although where he lived has since been demolished.
