Fijian golf star Vijay Singh shares lead in Hawaii
Fijian golf star Vijay Singh was one of five players who shared the lead after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii.
Vijay Singh, who won in just one event last year, hit six birdies in very blustery weather for a four-under-par 69 and alongside him were Korean golfer KJ Choi, Canadian star Stephen Ames and American duo Brett Wetterich and Will MacKenzie.
Luke Donald, the only British golf player in the 34-man field, hit a 72 and was one of just 12 players to break par.
Luke Donald hit four birdies but he also dropped three shots in the bad weather conditions at the Kapalua Plantation course, which saw winds of more than 25mph.
"I know the course pretty well, but this wind was something else," said Vijay Singh.
"If we had to play in this weather (regularly), I think I'd quit," Vijay Singh added.
