Ernie Els aims high at Qatar Masters
Golf star and world number five Ernie Els is aiming to equal the
European Tour's cut record when he makes his first appearance this year
at the Qatar Masters this week.
Ernie Els, 36, will match Bernhard Langer's mark of 69 consecutive cuts if he survives the opening two days in Doha.
South African golfer Ernie Els, who began his run at the Johnnie Walker
Classic in 2000, won back-to-back tournaments in Doha and Dubai last
year.
"Maybe the Middle East will be good for me again," Ernie Els said optimistically.
"I always enjoy my time here and hopefully I can repeat what I achieved last season."
Ernie Els returned to action in December following four months away from the sport due to an operation on his knee.
Ernie Els started his comeback with a ninth-place finish at the Sun
City Challenge and then went on to win the Dunhill Championship and
came second at the South African Open.
Ernie Els will take on a strong field with world number two
Vijay Singh and European Ryder stars Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and
Lee Westwood also participating.
