English golfer Richard Finch wins Irish Open
English golfer Richard Finch has won the Irish Open by two shots at Adare Manor, despite falling in a river at one stage of his game.
30-year-old Finch, who comes from Hull claimed a first prize of £330,297 and despite his accident he was able to find the humour in his experience of getting soaked in the River Maigue.
Richard Finch's second shot at the 18th fell landed just short of the water but as he hit his third onto the green, he slipped into the river, and although his trousers were wet through he got back out with a smile on his face.
Finch said: "It was not a choice really. It was a bit of an awkward stance, but I never gave falling in a thought. The momentum of the follow-through took me round and in."
This victory marks Richard Finch's second European Tour win this season - he had also won at the New Zealand Open back in December.
Finch is currently fifth in the Order of Merit, which is 105 places higher than he was in the last season's results, and he is just outside the top 10 in the Ryder Cup standings.
