English golfer Nick Dougherty hopes to keep his title at Singapore Masters
English golfer Nick Dougherty, 23, hopes to build on the fine start to
the season he has made by retaining his title at this week's Singapore
Masters.
Nick Dougherty has finished in the top 10 in three of his first six events he has played in.
"To get a chance to come back and defend your first win is something you only get one chance of doing," Nick Dougherty said.
And he added: "My game feels solid, so certainly I'm looking forward to it. And I'm as well-prepared as I can be."
Back in 2005, Nick Dougherty won over a late challenge from then
defending champion Colin Montgomerie to become the Singapore Masters'
youngest winner and now refreshed after a three-week break from the
sport, he returns to the scene of his past victory as a firm favourite
to win.
"Now I've got the experience of playing a year's worth of
golf. I feel like I deserve the place where I am at the moment," Nick
Dougherty said.
However, the young golfer will have to compete against
two-time Asian Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee, who will be at
the tournament after finishing second in the Malaysian Open and third
in Indonesia.
