English golfer David Howell's not so sure about the Open
European number one and world number 10, David Howell says he shouldn't be thought of as one of the favourites to win this week's Open at Royal Liverpool.
David Howell missed the French Open cut and finished 35th in the Scottish Open on Sunday and he also missed the cut in his last four Opens, with a tie for 42nd in 1998 being his best finish.
"To say I'm a contender is probably a bit silly. I'm trying to have as few expectations as possible," said David Howell.
"I need to start hitting it better than last week, that's for sure.
"I made a change to my swing that we think is better for the long term, changing the routine of my set-up and not standing over the ball quite so long.
"It has some positive aspects to it but I guess at the moment it's throwing me out of kilter a bit," David Howell added.
David Howell also feels that Hoylake will be a much harder test than others have claimed.
"Everyone's been saying in general they thought it was quite easy but I didn't see it that way," said David Howell.
