English flamboyant golfer Ian Poulter wore an Arsenal football shirt
England's Ian Poulter is in trouble and could be fined by the European
Tour's players' committee because he wore an Arsenal football shirt
during the recent Abu Dhabi Championship.
The Arsenal supporting golfer, who is famed for his flamboyant dress
sense and who once wore Union Jack trousers at the 2004 Open, wore the
club's shirt during the third round of the championship a fortnight
ago.
Officials were annoyed about this because the sponsor's logo on the front of the shirt was too large.
"I just wanted to spice it up a bit and would be very disappointed if I was fined," said Ian Poulter.
"I suppose if everyone turned up in the football shirt of the team they support, all hell would break loose.
"But it was just a bit of fun and I didn't mean to upset anybody," Ian Poulter added.
Ian Poulter, 30, could find out what will happen on Wednesday when the
committee are meeting ahead of this week's Dubai Desert Classic.
Ian Poulter ended the Abu Dhabi tournament 10 shots behind winner Chris DiMarco and was tied for 10th on 10 under.
