Domestic golf tour launched in India
A new domestic golf tour has started in India, with an initial schedule of six events worth £388,000 in total.
It happened after a legal battle between the Professional Golfers Association of India (PGAI) and Tiger Sports Marketing (TSM).
TSM had organised the previous Indian tour for eight years, but the PGAI annulled its contract in June, however, European Tour regular Jyoti Randhawa claimed: "This is not a breakaway tour, it is a tour."
The new domestic golf tour is being run under the auspices of the Professional Golf Tour of India.
But there is still some confusion, however, with many domestic golfers refusing to ditch the PGAI and backing TSM to continue playing a role.
Asian Tour player Gaurav Ghei urged his fellow golfers to join the new tour.
"Our tour is going to grow," Gaurav Ghei said. "The guys on the international tour have agreed to take time out to play on the domestic circuit," Gaurav Ghei added.
