Colin Montgomerie to be leader against Asia in Royal Trophy

colin montgomerieVeteran golf star Colin Montgomerie has been selected to lead the team from Europe when they play against Asia in the Royal Trophy in Thailand taking place in January of next year.

Montgomerie will be taking over the role from Seve Ballesteros because the Spanish legend is still being treated as he makes his recovery from a brain tumour and surgery he received.

Montgomerie has said that he has two reasons to be excited because he is already the Ryder Cup captain and now he will be leading the European team too in this forthcoming event.

Ballesteros had been the skipper for the Royal Trophy before, although Jose Maria Olazabal replaced him in January 2009 when Asia were the winners by 10-6.

Ballesteros has had to admit that he hasn't recovered well enough in time for this role but he is pleased to see Montgomerie taking it on.
