Canadian golfer Mike Weir leads at Buick Open
Canadian golfer Mike Weir birdied five of his final six holes to go into a first-round lead at the Buick Open, which was eventually stopped by rain.
Former US Masters champion Mike Weir shot a nine-under-par 63 to lead Fiji's Vijay Singh by one shot.
Mike Weir and Vijay Singh were both among the early starters who had enjoyed the benefits of good conditions before bad weather stopped play with more than half the field yet to go.
World number one Tiger Woods, who started his round with five straight birdies, is three shots off the lead.
"It's awfully fun when that happens," Tiger Woods said of his brilliant start.
"I did start off on the easier of the two sides, though, and got it going early. Just couldn't keep it going," Tiger Woods added.
But Mike Weir was out in front with five straight birdies of his own from the 13th hole and he said, "It was a great round."
