Australian golfer Nick Flanagan leads at Open
Australian golfer Nick Flanagan shot a six-under-par 66 on Tuesday to
go into the lead of the first round of the Australasian qualifying leg
for this year's Open.
Nick Flanagan, 21, who played his first Open as a professional in 2005,
heads the Melbourne tournament by three shots and he leads Brad Hughes,
Andrew Tschudin, Ben Bunny and Michael Wright, who also hail from
Australia.
"I got away to a fast start which was good and then had a couple of
lucky birdies on the back nine," said Nick Flanagan, who finished 23rd
in last year's Open.
"I love the Open," Nick Flanagan said. "It's probably my favourite - although the Masters was great too."
However, in his first Open, as an amateur golfer at Royal Troon in 2004, Nick Flanagan missed the cut.
Nick Flanagan feels the burden that went with the US amateur title he
won in 2003 was greater than he expected when he became a professional
player and he has struggled to make a big impact ever since.
This year Nick Flanagan will be focusing on the Nationwide Tour in
America but he is hoping to play on the PGA Tour in the country in a
couple of years too.
