Australian golf star Robert Allenby leads Bob Hope Classic
Australian golf star Robert Allenby made an impressive performance as he went into the lead after the first round of the Bob Hope Classic at La Quinta, California.
Robert Allenby, 35, had made an eighth place finish in Hawaii last weekend.
Robert Allenby first played on the PGA tour in 1993 and he won twice in both 2000 and 2001.
At the Bob Hope Classic Robert Allenby holed 25ft birdie putts on his last two holes and proudly said: "Tee to green, I played really well and I made a lot of putts.
"The greens were nice and receptive, and absolutely perfect to putt on. They had a great speed on them and I felt like I was going to make everything."
Other sports celebrities and Hollywood stars joined up with the PGA Tour for the opening round of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in Southern California and amongst these were actor Andy Garcia, ex-Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis, baseball player Roger Clemens and boxer Oscar De La Hoya.
