American veteran golfer Fred Funk wins PGA Mayakoba Classic

funk American veteran golf star Fred Funk defeated Argentina's Jose Coceres and has won the PGA Mayakoba Classic.

Fred Funk, 50, became the fifth oldest winner on the PGA Tour with his eighth career title. In the past on March 28, 2005 Fred Funk had claimed the biggest win of his career, when he had become the oldest player ever to win The Players Championship as well as the Skins Game.

Fred Funk has matched fellow American golfer Craig Stadler as the only players who have won a US PGA event after also being victorious on the senior tour.

"I think I validated how good the players are on the Champions Tour," said Fred Funk proudly and adding: "Even though you are 50 or 51 through 55 ... age doesn't really mean anything. I just want to see how long I can last."
