American golfer Paul Goydos' surprise win at Sony Open

paul goydos American golf star Paul Goydos has beaten English golfer Luke Donald and US compatriot Charles Howell III in a surprise win at the Sony Open held in Hawaii.

Three birdies in the final four holes gave Paul Goydos a 3-under 67 and a one-shot victory over Charles Howell III and Luke Donald.

"I feel very fortunate," Paul Goydos, 42, said.

And not just fortunate, but also surprised "I never felt like I was going to win," Paul Goydos said, because this marked his only other victory in 14 years on the PGA Tour, which came at the 1996 Bay Hill Invitational.

"I'm really happy with the way I played," said Paul Goydos.

"I made some putts when I needed to and just kind of stuck it out. I do try to win every decade so I've accomplished that.

"I just got lucky and that chip shot on 18 could have gone to where Charles was," Paul Goydos added.
