American golfer Michelle Wie pulls out of Women's Open

wie Hawaiian teenage golf star Michelle Wie had to pull out of the US Women's Open with a recurring wrist problem halfway through her second round at Pines Needles.

Michelle Wie, 17, who carded an opening 82, was six over before she abandoned the game on her 10th hole.

Michelle Wie explained: "The last thing I want to do is withdraw, but it left me with no choice,

"I just kind of woke up, and it was really sore. It held up but then I tweaked it. And then after that it went downhill.

"I don't remember hurting this much. Now I'll have to re-evaluate. I don't want this to happen again."

Michelle Wie, who will now return to America for medical advice in Florida, first suffered the wrist problem back in January.

Michelle Wie, despite a lot of problems this season, has five top-five finishes in major events and finished joint third in the US Women's Open last year.
