American golfer John Daly withdraws from BMW International Open
American golf star John Daly has had to withdraw from the BMW International Open in Munich because of gastric trouble.
John Daly, 40, who is a former Open and USPGA champion, and who won this event in 2001, pulled out before start of play after failing to get any better from his illness and he was replaced by England's Robert Rock.
Also, Fred Couples has withdrawn from next week's Singapore Open with what is thought to be the same virus that has affected Lee Westwood.
Lee Westwood, who stayed in the same hotel as Fred Couples last week, was forced to pull out before the start of the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, last weekend.
The 33-year-old English golfer, who cannot qualify automatically for the Ryder Cup, is going to play in Germany this week in the hope of catching the eye of European skipper Ian Woosnam, who still has to choose his wildcard picks.
John Daly was ill when he arrived in Germany on Tuesday and he cancelled a shootout that day as well.
