American golfer Cristie Kerr claims surprise win in Canadian Women's Open
American golf star Cristie Kerr made a surprise win in the Canadian Women's Open after her compatriot golfer Angela Stanford bogeyed the last two holes to give Kerr the title.
Cristie Kerr fired a seven-under par 65 in her final round, including four birdies in a row and finished on 12 under par.
However, Angela Stanford, who started the day with a four-stroke lead and began her back nine with seven pars, made a poor finish.
Cristie Kerr, who started the final round eight strokes adrift, gained her second title of the season and eighth in all.
"Unbelievable," Cristie Kerr said after the game. "I feel like I played great but I still can't believe I won. It was just a magical day."
Angela Stanford had only had three bogeys in the first three rounds and then her last two holes cost her a first win since 2003.
"I'm not sure how I'm going to react to this one," Angela Stanford said. "It's probably a good thing I'm playing next week. It's probably good to keep going," Angela Stanford added.
