American golf star Michelle Wie for the Reno-Tahoe Open

michelle wieAmerican teenage golf star Michelle Wie is taking part in a PGA Tour event once more when she will be a contestant in the Reno-Tahoe Open that begins on 31 July.

Wie has been in seven men's golf tournaments so far since her professional debut in the sport when she was hyped as a "teenage sensation" but despite all the publicity she has yet to make the cut.

Recently 18-year-old Wie had a stroke of bad luck when she was disqualified for failing to sign her scorecard whilst in second place at the LPGA Tour State Farm Classic.

Michelle Wie is thrilled to have another opportunity to play against the male golfers and she said: "It's not every day that a woman is given the chance to play on the greatest tour in the world."

Wie, who had an exceptional amateur career in golf, has yet to win her first LPGA Tour title and over the past year she has had her career bogged by injuries and poor performance on the course.
