Welsh racing cyclist Nicole Cooke wins Geelong Tour
For Welsh racing cyclist Nicole Cooke it was her first race of the season and she was taking part as a warm-up for the World Cup but Nicole Cooke has made a very impressive start to her year by winning the Geelong Tour in Victoria, Australia.
Nicole Cooke, 23, from Wick in Glamorgan, Wales, and who signed with the Swiss Univega team in 2005, was in the lead overall for all three days of the race, although she did not win any of the stages in it.
Nicole Cooke finished in fourth position behind Tina Pic in Thursday's final stage and had held her own against the T-Mobile team. Nicole Cooke explained: "The T-Mobile team threw down the gauntlet and opened up the racing, it required effort on all three days."
A proud and happy Nicole Cooke, who is the first non-Australian winner of the Geelong Tour, said: "It's awesome to start with a win."
