Welsh cyclist Nicole Cook is going for the World Cup title
Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke says the World Cup title is within her grasp after she extended her lead to 118 points with a win and a second place over the weekend.
"We're in a commanding position as we go into the final three races," said Nicole Cooke, whose Univega Raleigh Lifeforce team also leads the standings.
"It's very pleasing to be in this position. We've put in a lot of hard work over the last couple of months.
"It's good to get the results to reward the effort," Nicole Cooke added.
A successful weekend for Nicole Cooke, 23, began on Friday with second place in the eighth stage in Sweden.
Nicole Cooke was pipped to first place in a sprint finish, but with main opponent Judith Arndt out of the points, Cooke stretched her overall lead to 99 points.
Then on Sunday, Nicole Cooke led her team to a time trial triumph in Denmark, which represented another huge step towards gaining her second World Cup title.
The next stage will be held in France at the end of August, and Nicole Cooke says she has fond memories of the course in Plouay.
"I'm looking forward to that one because that's where I won my first junior world title and the World Cup back in 2003," Nicole Cooke said.
