Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas finishes Tour de France
Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas was very tired but very happy too to have achieved becoming the first Welshman in 40 years to complete the difficult 2,206-mile Tour de France race.
Geraint Thomas, 21, explained: "It's been tough, I enjoyed the sprints but as soon as we hit the Alps it was a different kettle of fish."
"Everyone dreams of riding down the Champs-Elysee and finishing the Tour, I'm happy to get here but feeling it."
Geraint Thomas finished in 140th position, nearly four hours behind Alberto Contador who was the winner of the Tour de France.
Belgian rider Wim Vansevenant was the only cyclist to finish behind Geraint Thomas, but managing to finish was achievement enough for the Welshman.
A lot of people expected Geraint Thomas to make a good start but to then withdraw when the Tour de France hit the gruelling uphill stages, but Geraint Thomas said the thought never crossed his mind.
"I couldn't see the point in going home after a few days, it was always in my mind to try to finish and it's awesome to be at the end," Geraint Thomas said.
