UK cyclist Mark Cavendish takes yellow jersey in 2007 Tour
British racing cyclist Mark Cavendish claimed the first yellow jersey of the 2007 Tour of Britain when he was the winner of the prologue time-trial around Crystal Palace.
This victory marked the ninth stage triumph of the season for 22-year-old Mark Cavendish.
And it has been reported that Mark Cavendish's time of two minutes 27.61 seconds over the 2.5km course was 0.8 secs faster than Russian opponent Nikolai Trusov.
Mark Cavendish is the first British cyclist to take the yellow jersey since the Tour of Britain began again in 2004.
Mark Cavendish, although delighted with his win, said he doesn't think he will be in the lead for long and he said: "I want to be realistic, I know I'm not going for the yellow jersey overall. I just want to challenge in a couple of stages and keep it for as long as possible."
Mark Cavendish also said: "However, I'm awfully proud to wear the yellow jersey in my home Tour."
Compatriot British riders Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy and Chris Newton finished respectively in seventh, eighth and ninth positions.
