UK cyclist Bradley Wiggins wins gold in Manchester
UK racing cyclist Bradley Wiggins has claimed his country's first gold on day one of the World Track Cycling Championships that are taking place in Manchester.
Bradley Wiggins defended his title as an Olympic winner in the 4,000m men's individual pursuit when he defeated Jenning Huizenga of the Netherlands in the final.
Bradley Wiggins had been hotly tipped to win the individual pursuit event but it became in doubt when he timed four minutes, 17.024 seconds in comparison with Jenning Huizenga's 4:16.343 when they raced in the heats.
But Bradley Wiggins proved what he was capable of when he claimed an easy win in 4:18.519.
Bradley Wiggins put in a performance that his opponent Jennings Huizenga simply couldn't beat.
Bradley Wiggins won the gold medal on his son's third birthday, and he said that he felt a great "relief" that it was all over and he had won.
