Tour de France could go to Scotland
The Tour de France could be brought to Scotland, because a campaign has been inspired by the success of this year's time-trial prologue and first stage of the race in England.
Event Scotland's Leon Thompson was quoted in The Scotsman newspaper as saying: "We've had the early conversations about the possibility of hosting the 'Grand Depart'. It's an iconic world-class event, and the kind of event that would sit very well within our portfolio."
Massive crowds watched this year's time-trial prologue in London, which was followed by the first stage of the race going through Kent down to the Channel coast.
Leon Thompson also said: "All conversations are at a very early stage and we're really just looking at what the possibilities might be."
Nevertheless, Tour de France officials have maintained that next year's race will start in Brittany and Monaco and again in the following year.
