The International Cycling Union (UCI) may help Alberto Contador
Alberto Contador looks as if he may get some help from the International Cycling Union (UCI) who have indicated that they could take legal action to make sure the Spanish cyclist can defend his Tour de France title this year.
UCI president Pat McQuaid has heavily criticised the Tour de France organisers for banning Alberto Contador's Astana team because of doping scandals, and he said: "It would be a tragedy if Contador is not allowed to defend his title. It is a complete disgrace."
Pat McQuaid added: "We will do all we can to ensure Contador rides in the tour."
Tour de France organisers have, however, said that Astana would not be allowed in the 2008 event, because they claim that the team cannot be trusted in the wake of the doping scandals.
Pat McQuaid responded to this saying that Astana were being unfairly singled out when other teams had just as bad a record.
