Team Astana invited to Giro d'Italia
Giro d'Italia organisers have sent an invitation to the Astana team to take part in the event at just one week's notice.
Astana had been previously omitted from the race following their dismissal from last year's Tour de France due to doping allegations.
On Saturday Astana said they are really pleased to have been invited and are now hurrying to get ready for the Giro's start next weekend.
Philippe Maertens of Astana said: "It is a good moment for us. When we were told in February that we were not invited, it was a disaster."
Astana were in touble last year and asked to leave the Tour de France race after lead rider Alexander Vinokourov tested positive for blood doping.
Astana enlisted Johan Bruyneel, from Belgium, as a new director to upgrade its image and the team's campaigns, as well as signing 2007 Tour champion Alberto Contador.
