T-Mobile end cycling sponsorship after drugs scandal
Mobile phone network company T-Mobile has decided it will no longer sponsor a cycling team following a series of doping scandals in the sport of cycling.
British riders Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins, who were part of the T-Mobile team are now looking likely to ride for the renamed Team High Road.
T-Mobile chief executive Hamid Akhavan explained: "We came to this decision to separate our brand from further exposure from doping in sport."
Only recently, T-Mobile cyclist Patrik Sinkewitz received a one-year ban for trdting positive, and in June, a numer of former T-Mobile riders, including Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis, confessed to using prohibited substances.
Deutsche Telekom, the German telecommunications firm and umbrella company for T-Mobile, had sponsored cycling since 1991, and the team's American boss, was brought on board earlier this season in a n attempt to start again form the beginning with the team, and with zero tolerance of drugs being used by cyclists.
