Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara wins time trials in Austria
Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara finished the three-year rule of Michael Rogers when he was the winner of the time trial at the World Cycling Championships in Austria.
Defending champion Michael Rogers could only come in at eighth place, while American champion David Zabriskie was second, one minute 30 seconds behind Fabian Cancellara, who whizzed round the 50.8km course in one hour 11.75 seconds.
"I gave it everything I could but Cancellara and the other boys were really strong today," said Michael Rogers.
Great Britain's David Millar was 15th following a puncture, however, these championships mark his first appearance for the British team since making a comeback from a two-year doping ban.
But the Scottish rider's promising recent performance meant little when he came in more than three minutes behind Fabian Cancellara.
"I felt pretty good at the start but there was a headwind for a lot of the way, then I punctured," said David Millar.
