Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara won "Hell of the North" race
Cyclist Fabian Cancellara, from Switzerland, won the Paris-Roubaix cycling classic race, which is also known as "The hell of the North".
His triumph stopped Belgian Tom Boonen from becoming the first rider to win the Tour of Flanders and the Paris-Roubaix two successive years.
Tom Boonen was second and Italian Alessandro Ballan finished in third place.
"I have been waiting for this moment for a long time," Fabian Cancellara said after his win. "It's years since a Swiss rider won here."
Last year's runner-up, American George Hincapie, crashed on a cobbled part of the course 50km from the line and looked as if he had seriously injured his shoulder.
Tom Boonen and Alessandro Ballan were promoted to the podium when Leif Hoste and two-time winner Peter Van Petegem were both disqualified after the race ended.
Leif Hoste and Van Petegem were judged to have broken the rules of the race by crossing the road at a railway crossing 10km from the end.
