Spanish cyclist Iban Mayo's sample to be re-analysed
Spanish racing cyclist Iban Mayo's 'B' sample for his positive test for drugs in the 2007 Tour de France is going to be analysed again after it gave an inconclusive result, it has been announced.
Iban Mayo, 30, was informed on Monday that the 'B' analysis from his positive test for erythropoietin (EPO) was negative, however, the International Cycling Union (UCI) says this does not mean he is in the clear yet.
UCI president Pat McQuaid explained why they were not satisfied: "The Paris lab was closed when the sample was to be tested. It was done in Ghent - the result was inconclusive."
Iban Mayo completed the Tour de France in 16th place overall, but he had been then suspended while his Saunier Duval team waited for the results of his test.
Iban Mayo is naturally annoyed about the matter and has said he is considering taking legal action against the UCI because of what has happened to him.
Iban Mayo is reported to have said: "I've spent many years cycling and I can't chuck it all in but sometimes you feel like it because there are so many injustices."
