Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde given the all clear by CAS
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has given Spanish racing cyclist Alejandro Valverde the all clear to take part in the World Championships.
The International Cycling Union (UCI) had banned Alejandro Valverde because of his potential involvement in the Operation Puerto doping scandal.
The Spanish Cycling Federation hadn't agreed with the UCI's ruling but it was decided that the CAS should make the final verdict on Alejandro Valverde's case.
UCI president Pat McQuaid is reported to have said: "We accept the decision."
Alejandro Valverde said he was relieved to be allowed to race but questioned some of the methods that had been used in his case.
Alejandro Valverde explained: "The riders are being used in a war of interests between organisations and it's about time everyone who loves cycling stepped forward to defend it."
