Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde awaits CAS decision
Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde is awaiting a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on whether he will be permitted to take part in the World Cycling Championships later this month on 26 September.
Alejandro Valverde, who was born in Las Lumbreras, Murcia, in Spain, and is aged 27, is widely considered to be one of the most talented cyclists of his generation, being an excellent climber and more than respectable time trial rider. However, Alejandro Valverde was originally banned by the
International Cycling Union because of his potential involvement in the Operation Puerto doping investigation.
Nevertheless, the Spanish Cycling Federation think that Alejandro Valverde, who denies having had anything to do with drugs in the sport, should be allowed to participate.
CAS have been agreed upon to make the final decision on whether Alejandro Valverde will be able to ride.
