Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador to miss Giro d'Italia
Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador has decided he will not be taking part in the Giro d'Italia next year and may also not compete in the Spanish Vuelta so he can concentrate his efforts on the Tour de France.
25-year-old Contador won the Italian and Spanish grand tours this year after yet another win in last year's Tour.
Tour de France past-winner Lance Armstrong recently announced he would be joining the Astana team when he makes his comeback next year and said he would take part in the Giro d'Italia for the first time.
Contador, who is a rider for Astana, at first admitted misgivings about Armstrong's arrival and said he was considering moving to another team, however, he has since changed his mind and is now happy to be racing with the American as a team-mate.
Contador is currently considering the Paris-Nice race, which he won last year, the Castilla and Leon Vuelta and possibly the Basque Country Vuelta as well, as additional contests he may take part in 2009.
